BELSTONE welcomed Harberton to Rew Meadow on Sunday with the visitors winning a low scoring game by 39 runs.
Belstone won the toss and elected to field first. The visitors struggled on the damp wicket against some fine bowling by Aidan Easterbrook (7-1-14-0) and Jonathan Parsons (8-2-14-1).
However, both Powell (35) and Pyke (38) increased the scoring rate with Powell, in particular, hitting some very big 6s before being well caught on the boundary by Easterbrook. Pete Gross (8-1-21-1) also bowled well for Belstone but Scott (23) and Wing (24) played sensibly for the visitors to enable Harberton to finish on 139 after their 40 overs.
Belstone made a steady start in their reply to Harberton?s total against some tight bowling by Goldsmith (8-0-30-1) and Tregelles (7-0-8-0).
Pete Gross (15) and Wayne Pearce (21) took the score along to 38 for 1 in the 15th over before clever bowling by Pyke (5-1-10-3) saw the home team collapse to 46 for 6 in the 20th over.
Simon Tremain (31) batted well with the remaining batsmen to enable the score to reach 100 but Belstone were well short of Harberton?s total.
Special mention should go to Ryan Gross (5) who, at age seven, scored his first runs for Belstone.
Next Sunday, Belstone are at home to Tedburn St Mary in a re-arranged Buckley Cup fixture. Match starts at 10:30 am.
