A FLYING visit was made by the Devon Air Ambulance to Okehampton College on Monday to accept a share of the £4,500 raised from a sponsored walk organised by GNVQ students last July.
The money was split between the air ambulance and OCRA (Okehampton Community Recreation Association.)
The air ambulance had promised to make a personal visit due to the large sum involved and could guarantee an appearance providing there were no emergencies to attend to.
The helicopter dropped in at the college after taking a casualty to Torbay Hospital and it was greeted by pupils as it landed on the grass outside the Octagon Theatre.
Both charities were delighted with the donation.
Manager of OCRA Stuart Lord expressed his thanks to all the pupils who had taken part in the walk and the GNVQ students who had organised the event.
'This money is a great help to OCRA and will help us to continue running a diverse sporting programme as well as events like sportsweek and other schemes in Okehampton and surrounding villages,' he said.
One of the particular projects the money would benefit was the development of a climbing wall.
