AS part of the Tavistock Music and Art Festival, the Tavistock Art Gallery is exhibiting several works by Robert Lenkiewicz, including a rare piece that has never been on public display.

Entitled 'The rose', it depicts Tavistock resident and former town mayor Caroline Keane and her daughter, Miranda.

An artist in her own right, Caroline was a pupil of Lenkiewicz. This may be the only Lenkiewicz painting of a mother and daughter, and was illustrated in the book 'Remembering Robert' by the renowned Plymouth playwright and photographer Jo-Jo.

'The rose' joins several other original Lenkiewicz pieces, included a watercolour study of Suzanna, a pallet with self-portrait, and an oil study of Bianca Ciambriello. Bianca was Lenkiewicz's stepdaughter and went on to become a model, remaining a friend of Kate Moss today. She married Lord Jago Eliot, the heir to the Earl of St Germans.

Following the untimely death of her husband in 2006, Lady Bianca Eliot became engaged to Earl Spencer, uncle to Princes William and Harry, in March of last year. The couple subsequently called off their engagement, and the Earl now has a new fiancé.

Specialising in original works by southwest artists, the gallery is located at 17 Duke Street, open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm.
