OVER the next three days the Museum of Dartmoor Life at Okehampton will be open free of charge as part of Heritage Open Days. The museum will be open from Thursday, September 11 to Saturday, September 13 from 10.15am to 4.15pm. On Friday and Saturday, there will be a rare opportunity to explore 'behind the scenes' with founder curator Alan Endacott. Alan started collecting what became the core of the museum's collection when he was a boy growing up on his parents' farm at Throwleigh. He will introduce visitors to the history of the buildings in the museum courtyard and give his personal insights into objects in the museum collection. The tours will take place on both days at 10.30am, noon and 2.30pm. Heritage Open Days is a national event sponsored by English Heritage which aims to provide free public access once a year to heritage places and events that bring local history and culture to life.
