WALKERS flocked to Horrabridge recently, dressed in wellies and waterproofs to take part in the age-old tradition of Beating the Bounds.
Around 180 people turned out to walk the boundaries of the parish, passing each of the 11 boundary stones.
The walk was organised by Horrabridge Parish Council and the weather held out for people to enjoy the eight mile trek.
Sue Jewell, Horrabridge Parish Council Clerk, said: 'Everyone had a brilliant time.
'We set off at 10.30am, stopped for cider and pasties at lunchtime and finished at around 4pm.
'There was a tradition of beating the children at the first boundary stone — but obviously we just pretended. We are very grateful to Jill and Jinks Fitzsimmons for their help in organising the event.'
The first Beating of the Bounds walk took place when Horrabridge became a parish, around 1950, but it was not done again for a number of years until 1990.
It now takes place every ten years.
