Carlsberg South West Peninsula Premier Liskeard 3 Tavistock 0 AT a cold, wet and windy Lux Park, it was a case of de jévu as once again too many Tavistock players lost their individual battles and collectively lost the match to a rag, tag and bob tail Liskeard Athletic who are in a state of re-building. Once more it was the nature of the defeat which is the cause for concern as the Lambs went down with barely a whisper. Tavistock made a number of changes from last week giving a debut to Rockey in midfield and drawing skipper Will Stringer to the centre of defence. However, it was in the middle that Tavistock found it hard to come to terms with an effervescent Blues who started at a quick tempo and controlled the game throughout. Playing with a strong wind behind them the home side pushed forward and went close on five minutes from a free kick. Tavistock were kept increasingly on the back foot and a needless foul by Stringer was punished by Alexander who gave Andy Meeds no chance from 25 metres. The home side should have increased their lead minutes later but good cover from Lee Ireland saw him clear the ball off the line. Tavistock adjusted their system in an attempt at creating parity in midfield but there was little cohesion. Harvey, who was desperate to do well against his old team, was largely isolated up front while Honey was a peripheral figure and it was left to Glyn Hobbs to provide any threat to the home goal. Not for the first time this season Andy Meeds kept the Lambs in the game with a sensational save just before the interval and they were relieved and probably happy to go in at the break with just a one goal deficit. Tavistock needed to pick up the pace of their game but were hit by a freak second goal from the Blues when a speculative cross sailed past a despondent Andy Meeds. In desperation Tavistock made a triple substitution in an attempt to get back into the game and while in particular the release of Stringer into midfield brought more energy to their play they were increasingly susceptible to the quick break particularly down their left flank and it was from such a play that Liskeard wrapped up the points on 70 minutes when a right wing cross was easily converted. Tavistock were creating chances and Glyn Hobbs brought a great instinctive save from the home keeper but this was another disappointing performance. With five minutes to go a reckless challenge from Shane Krac gave the referee no option but to point to the penalty spot but Andy Meeds brought off a great save low to his left to underline why he has been selected for the Devon squad and also to cap a fine performance sadly one of the few in red and black. lTavistock entertain Foxhole in the cup on Saturday at Langsford Park.
