JUST under £650 was raised by the volunteers of Tavistock Rotary Club, who manned a book stall and a 'Guess the Weight of the Geese' competition at the town's Goose Fair day.
A total of 450 guesses were registered, with geese loaned by farmer Richard Steer of Hole Farm at Gulworthy. There were three spot-on guesses of 29lb 2oz and the winner, a resident of Bishopsmead, was drawn from a hat and opted for the £40 cash prize instead of an oven-ready goose.
Martin Webb, the Rotarian in charge of fundraising, expressed thanks to Abbey Surgery for the use of its lawn and the public for their donations, which helps enable the club to continue support local causes.
