GIRL GUIDES in Tavistock are hoping that Christmas 2011 will be a record-breaking year, as they aim to deliver even more cards in the run-up to the festive period.
Last year the guides delivered around 7,000 Christmas cards in Whitchurch and Tavistock, raising valuable funds for the movement's youth organisation.
The special 20p stamps used in the Guides Christmas post will be on sale from November 21, from the Cards for Good Causes in the URC in Russell Street, Pillars newsagents, Tavistock Launderette, Mainly Stationery, Lake Pharmacy, Superdrug, Tavyside Health Centre and Spar in Ford Street.
Special blue post boxes will also be situated at these outlets, as well as at Tavistock Methodist Church and the Guide Hall in Bedford Car Park.
Last posting will be at 5pm on Friday December 16, after which the cards will be blundled up ready for delivery over the weekend of December 17 and 18.
To avoid disappointment, customers are urged to make sure envelopes are clearly and correctly addressed. The service applies to Tavistock town and Whitchurch only — Brownies in Bere Alston operate a separate delivery in their village, for more information on this service call Mrs Hicks on 01822 840003.
For information about the Guides Christmas post or general enquiries call Kate Harding on 01822 613661 or Lorraine Orton on 615552.
