AROUND 95 people participated in the 18th Dartmoor Challenge in aid of Derriford Children's Cancer Service — now fingers are crossed that this year has helped bring the amount raised to a fantastic £100,000.

Walkers of all ages took part in the two-day challenge, which saw two walks of ten miles and 15 miles over Dartmoor on April 25 and 26.

Stephen Parker, the founder of Dartmoor Challenge and organiser of the annual event, said he hoped this year's walk would reach the major milestone.

Stephen said: 'We have raised £92,500 and this year we are really hoping to break the big £100,000.

'It will be fantastic if we can raise that amount and reach that milestone but we won't find out until June 13 — but there will be a bottle of bubbly on ice just in case.'

During this year's challenge two Ten Tors teams from Tavistock College took part in order to help them train for the exercise which is taking place this weekend, plus raising money for the charity.

Stephen expressed thanks to First Great Western and Cross Country Trains for their support by hiring the minibus back-up.

Next year's challenge will be held on April 24 and 25. On the first day the walk will be from Postbridge to South Zeal, and on the second it will be from Princetown to Widecombe-in-the-Moor. For more information call Stephen on 07771826702.
