Bere Alston United 6

Saltash United 3

IT seemed that Bere's dismal home record was set to continue as they started poorly against a Saltash side that came into the game on the back of an eight match unbeaten run.

With captain Will Westlake playing in an unfamiliar left back role, Bere were struggling to cope with a lively Saltash midfield and it was no surprise that they took the lead when Scott Wellington broke forward unchallenged and fired the visitors in front from 30 yards.

Manager Kevin Taylor switched Steve Piper to left back and moved Westlake into midfield but before they had time to adjust, Piper lost possession to Ashley O'Rourke who set up Stuart Taylor for Saltash's second.

Bere responsed when Aaron Rockey's defence splitting pass found Marcus Pethick who reduced the arrears with a cool finish into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later and Bere were level when Aaron Rockey superbly controlled a long clearance wide on the right and picked out Nick Aplin at the far post for close range finish.

Bere went into the break with their tails up and within five minutes of the restart they were awarded a penalty after Marcus Pethick had been fouled and although Mike Curtis saw his spot kick saved, he followed up to head home the rebound and put Bere in front.

Saltash were unlucky to see a Stuart Taylor free kick hit the post, but almost immediately Bere's Nick Aplin seized on an under hit back pass to slot home his second and Bere's fourth.

The Saltash keeper then produced two great saves to deny Aaron Rockey and Mike Curtis before Nick Aplin completed his hat trick with another close range finish.

Bere were starting to run riot and Will Westlake added a sixth before Luke Dodderidge completed the afternoons scoring with a third for Saltash in the closing stages.
