HATHERLEIGH Carnival is on the lookout for this year’s carnival queen.

The carnival committee has held its general meeting and is now looking for its carnival royalty.

Louise Bater from the committee said: ‘We would like a female who is at least 12 years old by carnival day. She must live in the parishes of either Hatherleigh, Meeth or Highampton, or one of the neighbouring parishes.

‘Applicants must be prepared to sell carnival draw tickets and will receive 10% of any sales over £100 and a grant towards the cost of her float.

‘In the past, queens have put themselves forward to represent a local organisation, which usually means they will get help from that group with draw ticket sales and float building.

‘After the final meeting that group will receive a percentage of any profits made at this year’s carnival – a good way to raise money for your organisation.’
