AFTER raising an amazing £22,000 in 2015, Hatherleigh Pink Ladies are doing their best to top that total this year — with a safari themed charity bash on September 3.
The ladies are a group of five women who raise money for both national and local charities.
Formed a decade ago to give Hatherleigh a focal fundraising event, the Pink Ladies decided on a charity ball. This year’s ball at Made-Well near Hatherleigh has a safari theme.
Michelle Downie, one of the ladies, said: ‘Last year we raised in excess of a fantastic £22,000 for our chosen charities. This is raised by our silent auction – a fabulous array of donations ranging from villas at home and abroad to a beautiful cake every month for six months.
‘The possibilities are endless and we are eternally surprised at the generosity of donors. Over the years money has been passed on to charities and organisations such as Hospiscare, multiple sclerosis, Help for Heroes, Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer, Get Changed Theatre Company, Hatherleigh Players and Samaritans.
‘This year the charities chosen are Exeter Leukaemia Fund, Nepal Ease, Okehampton Rugby Club and Hatherleigh Silver Band. Next year it could be you!
‘We welcome all approaches from charities and local groups who are raising money to benefit others.’
