CHILDREN from Hatherleigh Primary School were joined by local musicians to perform in a spring concert at Hatherleigh Community Centre.
Last year the school was successful in being awarded the John Lewis Partnership Music Matters grant. The grant of £1,200 has enabled children at the school to take part in an exciting range of music making in school and in the wider community.
It has given the school the chance to celebrate existing musicians and to introduce pupils to new opportunities for singing and playing. The hope is that local community groups will benefit from having the next generation of musicians eager to join in and participate.
Headteacher Caroline Boother said: ‘The spring concert was a lovely celebration of the children’s enthusiasm to learn and it was wonderful to see such happy faces. Thank you to all who made this event possible and a huge thank you must go to Hatherleigh Silver Band and Unity Gospel Choir for their desire to encourage younger members to join in with the music in the community.
‘The experience the children gain from playing and singing as part of a larger group and alongside adults has been invaluable.’
