A WORLD record was set at Hatherleigh Market on Tuesday with the most lots sold within 24 hours — an event staged to help raise funds to save the facility.
Hatherleigh auctioneer Philip Pyle and his son Robert hammered their gavels to sell around 1,000 lots within a 24 hour period, securing them a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The fundraiser was staged in aid of Hatherleigh Market Community Interest Company (CIC), which is trying to raise more than £2-million to buy back the market from the current owners, property developer Kingswood Homes.
