HATHERLEIGH Primary School will be hosting a special support and information event for parents this weekend.

Open to all local parents with children of any age, the event hopes to give families the opportunity to access all of the advice, answers and help they may need under one roof.

Hatherleigh Primary's chair of governors and organiser Vix Jevons said: 'This is the first time we've run such an event. There's a good variety of useful services attending that people could really benefit from seeing.

'Staff and governors will also be running a programme of informal forum type workshops where parents can get answers, support and practical advice on topics such as today's education system, getting back to work, internet safety and social media etiquette and handling life on low incomes/living with debt.

'We're hoping it will be well attended and that everyone leaves feeling that they've got something helpful or useful from it.'

Within the 'one-stop shop' advice hall the Citizens' Advice Bureau, Action on Hearing Loss, Learn Devon, Dartmoor National Park, South West Water, West Devon Waste and Recycling, Okehampton Library, Devon Carers, Hatherleigh Children's Centre, Parklands Leisure Centre, Devon Fire Service and local child care providers will be represented.

Vix said: 'It's not all serious — there's fun to be had too. A storyteller is coming, Learn Devon are putting on a craft activity, children can have a go playing with the Hatherleigh Town Band, there's a dinosaur hunt, a wishing tree and we're rounding off with a Teddy Bear's Picnic if the weather is good, so bring your blankets, picnics and don't forget your bears.'

The information morning takes place at Hatherleigh Primary from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, with workshops throughout the morning and the teddy bear's picnic until 2pm.
