Devon Senior Cup

first round

Tedburn St Mary 0

SPORTING their new kit, courtesy of Image Makers of Sticklepath, South Zeal dominated this tie for long periods and deserved victory.

The first half was goalless and for a ten-minute spell early on Tedburn looked dangerous until the Zeal defence, marshalled by Wonnacott, began to get to grips with their attack.

Zeal made three good chances in the first half but could not put the ball away and the Tedburn defence was kept busy by tireless running by Garry Smith and Mark Hampson, supported by Harley Cann,Tom Reilly and Roger White in midfield.

In the second half, Tedburn had another good spell early on but never really troubled Neil Clift in the Zeal goal. With 20 minutes left Zeal deservedly took the lead when Steve Pillivant cut inside and hit a great through-ball to Shaun Hiscock who finished well from the edge of the six-yard box.

Ten minutes later Alan Vile latched on to a good through-ball and drew the Tedburn keeper before finishing well into the left hand corner of the net.

Tedburn started to push forward and Zeal could have had several more goals as their forwards stretched the home team's defence, With five minutes left Shaun Hiscock broke down the left and finished well with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the six-yard box.

South Zeal play Okehampton away on September 28, kick-off 3pm.
