WITH reference to the photograph and article on the back page of last week's paper, showing the Lions Club presentation to the Tavistock Museum, I would like to clarify the history regarding the cups.
Three of the cups were presented at some time in the dim and distant past by businesses in the town, namely Messrs Perratons, which was a cafe and bakery located where the NatWest bank is now, the Reliance Cafe, which it is believed was somewhere near the Co-op, and Messrs Sweets of Tavistock, the gentleman's outfitters which used to be in West Street.
The fourth cup was the one given by W Longley Esq and this is the trophy about which we would like to have more information, so if anybody can provide any details, they can contact me via the e-mail address shown below.
Incidentally, the 'Best in Procession' shield was donated by S.R.Goode Esq, the founder of Goode's cafe (where Dorothy Perkins is now located) and its final recipient was Tavistock Primary School in 1999, after which it was replaced with a new shield which also bears the Goode name.

• At a recent meeting, it was decided that the theme for next year's carnival will be 'Tell Us a Story', which the Lions hope will allow entrants plenty of scope for the imagination.
