THE Tavistock Town Relays, sponsored by Ambrosia, and held last Thursday in the Meadows, saw some exciting finishes in both the junior and senior races.
There was glory for ?home? team Tavistock who romped to first position in the main senior race with magnificent runs by all four team members, overhauling pre-race favourites Plymouth Harriers in the final leg.
There were club teams from as far afield as Exmouth and some who made their debut in this popular event such as Tamar Trotters and South West Road Runners.
There was no shortage of local, non-athletic club teams with Tavistock Hockey Club winning both men?s and ladies? prizes in the sports clubs category.
Capita Business Services also turned up in style, winning the local organisations category in a very respectable time.
There were eleven junior teams competing for honours with East Cornwall Harriers dominating the prizes and winning three of the five age group categories.
The evening opened with the fun run which saw 20 youngsters doing their one lap of the Meadows.

l Last Sunday Tavistock AC were over the other side of Dartmoor for the testing Haytor Heller, an arduous six-mile race hosted by Teignbridge Trotters.
It was yet another excellent day at the races with some excellent finishes. Martin Exley continued his rich vein of form finishing in fourth position and second in his age group.
New boy Tony Symons, in his first year with the club and now fully recovered from an injury he sustained earlier in the year, stormed to 21st place. Fiona Dunn was first Tavistock lady home in 57th position.
