TAVISTOCK retained their unbeaten record this season with a very comfortable win at The Mill.
With the local church bells ringing out and a wedding breakfast about to commence at the Cornish team's club house, it was more a case of 'for whom the bells tolled' as Tavistock dominated proceedings in the Millbrook half and proving very inhospitable guests at this affair.
As the bride and groom arrived for the festivities, there were plenty of nominees in the Lambs team for best man, as first Nathan Blamey called upon Richard Rowe to save from fully 45 yards in the fifth minute, then moments later Jeff Babb was asking all the questions as he jinked his way around a bemused Millbrook defence only to see hit shot deflected for a corner.
The Millbrook player-of-the-month was regularly in action and it was going to be hard to name any other player in the black and white of the home team, such was the dominance of Rowe and the Tavistock side.
Despite their overwhelming control of the game the blustery wind appeared to play an important part and it took the Lambs thirty-seven minutes to go in front. Jeff Babb's first-time shot was blocked by the Mill defence only to return to Babb who subtly played the ball back to Jason Carwardine who fired home through a posse of players.
On the few occasions in the half when Millbrook threatened, the Tavistock defence, well-marshalled by Graeme Kirkup, remained in total command.
The second half was again a case of Tavistock versus the Millbrook goalkeeper, who time and again denied the rampaging Lambs' attack.
Millbrook's best chance came in the sixty-seventh minute when it required Andy Meads playing in his one hundred and forty-ninth consecutive appearance to tip over from Matt Cusack.
The bride and groom had hardly cut the cake, when Tony Thirlby put the icing on Tavistock's celebration. Lee Beer was to start a four- man move with accurate passing that saw Jeff Babb play the ball to Jason Carwardine who set up Tony Thirlby for the goal of the game in the seventieth minute.
Tavistock team: Andy Meads, Lee Beer, James Cole, Graeme Kirkup, Andy Parnowski, Darren Babb, Nathan Blamey (capt.); Chris Gott (Mark Wall 71min), Jeff Babb (Steve Daymond 80min). Jason Carwardine, Tony Thirlby (Robbie Hawkins 80min).
