A?FRIEND'S wedding and a performance at the Treasury bar in Plymouth will bring former Tavistock College pupil Matt Eglington, who has recently been performing on the London Jazz scene, for a flying visit back home.
On Monday, December 15 Matt and Simon Lawrence, best known as established London duo Blue Croon, will be performing the gig in Plymouth.
Classically trained under Robert Dyer of Musitech Studios in Roborough, Matt now lives in Richmond, South West London and has become heavily involved in the London Jazz scene, performing every day at some of the capital's best known venues such as The Ritz, The Savoy, Ronnie Scotts and Denmark Street clubs, performing for the likes of Sir Bruce Forsyth and Cilla Black.
Part of Matthew's busy performing schedule includes performing at weddings, corporate functions and high society events.
At the present time, Matthew is also working as the pianist for comedian and impressionist Bobby Davro.
Matt and Simon met through an online musicians' forum in October 2012 and have since gone on to be one of the most popular new duos in London, performing regularly together at London's major jazz and blues venues.
Eleven years older than Matthew, Simon has been working as a professional singer in London for nearly 15 years. In this time, he has performed for clients including Microsoft and Pepsi and Debeers and appeared at some of London's most famous venues, such as the 12 bar club and Blues Camden.
As well as performing, Simon spent seven years working along side the late jazz songwriter Fran Landesman, who wrote songs for Ella Fitzgerald, Barbara Streisand, Shirley Bassey and Bette Midler.
At this special evening, the audience will hear some classic standards by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and Ray Charles. There will also be songs by Elton John and Billy Joel as well as some festive standards. Blue Croon will also be performing their original material, in which they are currently in the studio recording.
Matthew said, 'I'm really looking forward to returning to Plymouth.
'It will be a really fantastic event. It will also be great that my family and friends in Plymouth and Tavistock will be able to come and see me in a local venue.
'I hope that lots of people come and join us for what will be a fun evening.'
Tickets are £10 and available on the door. There are discounted £5 tickets available to music students with valid student ID.
