TEN-year-old Jennifer Howard from South Zeal swept the board at the County Riding for the Disabled Association Show in Exeter recently and helped her group from Hittisleigh win the team shield.
Jennifer, who joined the Hittisleigh group this year, was the winner of the Handy Pony competition, managing her pony herself, and was presented with the silver cup and rosette as overall champion of the show.
Her success helped Hittisleigh triumph over four other Devon groups to take the team prize.
The children in the Hittisleigh team rode the ponies they use each week at Penny Hill's South Nethercott Farm stable. The other riders in the successful team were Jonathan Green, Hannah Leworthy, Rachel Nott, Luke Maxim, Ben Holloway, Chloe Snell and Chad Lobb.
Twelve disabled children aged under 16 from the Okehampton and Crediton area, and many volunteer helpers, meet weekly throughout the summer for riding sessions.
A fun ride to boost funds for Riding for the Disabled is being organised on Dartmoor for September 10. For details telephone Dot Bassett on 01837 840950.
