HAVING beaten South Dartmoor Community College by 27 points to 7 pts in the first round of the Under 15 Daily Mail Cup, the Kelly College Colts XV took on Exeter School on Saturday in Round 2 of the competition.
Playing in fine conditions, the Kelly pack soon got the upper hand and were particularly strong in the rucks, pushing the opposition off several balls that they had no real right to win. The pick-and-drive game of the forwards led to three first-half tries; two scored by flying winger Harry Wyatt after intelligent back play, and one by bullocking forward Lorne Bell.
Two second half tries by the visitors (one converted) brought the score to 15-12 with only a few minutes to play. Despite tenacious play by the Exeter side, the Kelly boys held out to shade the victory.
The next round will see Kelly play the Wellington School side from Somerset. Before then they commence their Devon Cup campaign against St. Boniface?s College, Plymouth.
