Buckley Cup Belstone v Yeoford BELSTONE and Yeoford fought out a close game in the cup last week with the result in doubt until the final over. Belstone reached the ten over half-way stage of their innings well placed on 60 for two after good contributions from Richard Drake (19), Matt Dennis (22) and skipper Scott Tremain (19). Yeoford kept the runs down in the second ten overs helped by two run outs and useful spells from Neil Allport (4-0-18-2) and Murch (4-0-24-2). Needing to score 107 for victory, Yeoford kept up with the required run rate throughout their reply with Barlow (27 ret) and Peter Dennis (21) leading the way. Their total was also boosted by some wayward Belstone bowling which conceded a crucial ten wides. The final over began with Yeoford needing three to win and a boundary for Murch was enough to secure them a five-wicket victory, their first over Belstone since 2005. l Portsmouth tourists Stansted, put in to bat when they visited Rew Meadow last Sunday, struggled for runs on a drying pitch which offered some lift to the dynamic Belstone opening attack of Harry Bushin and Jonathan Parsons. In fact, six of the first dozen overs were maidens with Bushin picking up two wickets into the bargain. There was no respite when Adam Griffiths (3-1-3-2) and Chris Gomersall (8-2-23-2) took over the attack so that after 20 overs the score had crawled to 36 for six. Three catches behind the stumps for keeper Colin Tucker further reduced the visitors to 53 for eight but then Hugh Pollard (24no) joined John Falloner (42 not out) to begin a recovery. Over the next 15 overs they batted cautiously, content to wait and punish the few bad balls, eventually sharing an unbroken partnership of 68 which took the total at tea to something approaching respectability, 121 for eight. Belstone did not hang around in their chase, with Scott Tremain (25) adding 42 for the second wicket with Phil Woods. Griffiths raced to 24 not out from five scoring strokes and Woods reached a hard-hit half century with four fours and four sixes as the home team cruised to a seven-wicket win off just 17 overs.
