Okehampton families attended the town’s first ever Lego Church at All Saints Parish Church's church hall on Saturday (October 30) to enjoy Bible stories and Lego building.
Originally an American initiative the Lego Church programme aims to encourage more young families to attend church events by combining Lego building with Bible stories.
Following the lesson, children are encouraged to build Lego structures inspired by the story.
All Saints Parish Church plan is to hold monthly events at the Church Hall and cover a range of Biblical topics.
Rector of Okehampton, Rev Stephen Cook, said of the first Lego Church: ’It went really well, with several new families coming along for the first time. We were thinking about names and what they mean: why we were given the name we have and what it says about us.’
Children were told the story of how Peter was named by Jesus and built Lego structures inspired by the story.
’We made quite a few Lego boats and some people made their name in Lego,’ said Rev Cook.
The children also enjoyed making popcorn and experimenting with different flavours. According to Rev Cook they ’might have hit a winning combination this month.’
Lego Church events are held monthly and open to everyone though children must be accompanied by an adult. The next event will tke place on Saturday, November 25 at 4pm in the Church Hall on Market Street.
