BOOK lovers at Okehampton Library can find out how they can borrow their favourite books at any time day or night — thanks to Devon Libraries' eBook service.
Devon Libraries offers a free Overdrive eBooks and eAudiobooks service which allows people to borrow ebooks on their computer, tablet or smartphone for 14 days, using their library card.
Jill Currie, area manager for Devon Libraries, was at the library on Monday to show visitors how to use the service and download a special app to their tablet, phone or eReader to read the books.
She said: 'The service is especially useful to those who cannot necessarily get into their local library all that easily. It does not limit how many books you can take out from your library either; it is a separate allocation.
'People often have the gadget they need to read eBooks, but need help with the app or knowing exactly how to use them. Hopefully, some people in Okehampton will be using eBooks now as well as the library.'
County councillor Kevin Ball was also at the library:?'It is a fantastic service that opens up new opportunities for people to read, even if they cannot get to their library.
'The fact it is completely free of charge and a separate allocation to normal books is also fantastic. I am now a member, and I urge others to try and use it,' he said.
The event was part of Devon County Council's Active Life, Active Mind programme, aimed at supporting health and wellbeing.
On October 16 the library will host Wellbeing Wednesday, where people can find out about different forms of exercise and ways to relax and keep fit.
Tom Soby will lead a walk from the library on Thursday, October 24 through Okehampton, pointing out landmarks of historical interest.
Every Friday in October is Free Friday — a new service offering free extended computer and internet access, with extra support from trained library staff. People can also fill out a health and wellbeing quiz at any point during the month.
