A MAN from Okehampton was among those firefighters who were honoured last week at a ceremony commending actions taken above and beyond the call of duty by firefighters from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Richard Harnell, aged 40, and who has served at Okehampton Fire Station since 1990, was presented with a long service award certificate and medal for 20 years by the Vice Lord Lieutenant Sir John Cave at the special ceremony in Paignton.

Also attending were the DSFR chief fire officer Lee Howell and Fire and Rescue Authority chairman.
