HONOURS turned out even for both teams as they faced each other for the second time in a week. The home side had to come from behind with just three minutes remaining on the clock to draw level.
The Lambs added Lance Bailey to the starting line up in the absence of Daniel Fadida and it was his skill on the wing that gave him room to send in a great cross for Craig Hodge to head home on 22 minutes.
Their lead just lasted 5 minutes when a through ball saw Gavin Edwards and Tom Patrick race away in the clear. Edwards got to the ball the same time as keeper Andy Meeds and just got enough contact for the ball to fall kindly for Patrick to slot home into an empty net.
It looked like they would be going in on level terms at half time but in injury time Alan Yendall was adjudged to have fouled Dave Burt in the area and Jamie Burr made no mistake from the spot.
Even then the Lambs were unlucky not to have still drawn level when from the kick off they attacked for James Steer to put in Will Westlake, but his shot got the faintest of touches from keeper Paul Williams to concede a corner.
From that Westlake rattled the Magpies? cross bar and then followed up but his effort was scrambled away to safety.
Mark Wall replaced Mark Keith at the start of the second half and within 30 seconds they were back on level terms.
Steer was fouled out wide just inside his own half and Duncan Duthie?s free kick sailed high into the area.
Burr attempted to head clear in front of his keeper and he might have got the slightest of touches but all it did was to deceive Williams to bounce into the net.
With the wind behind them the Lambs continued to press and eight minutes later deservedly took the lead with a goal as rare as hens? teeth.
Westlake raced away down the touch line to send in a low cross that was only partially cleared. Wall is not renowned for his goal scoring but when they do come they are of a special quality and this one was no exception as he caught it on his unfavourable left to send in a shot that gave Williams no chance. A minute later Westlake got down the wing again but the cross for the unmarked Bailey never arrived as his effort went wide.
Burt shot across the goal for the home side before Duthie put Westlake away clear on 63 minutes but his attempted chip over the keeper lacked height and Williams gathered easily.
The last quarter saw the Lambs under heavy pressure but they could not hold out as Patrick got the home side?s equaliser just before the end.
A good display from the Lambs on a sticky pitch in very windy conditions with another welcome point a long way from home. The elusive first league win is not too far away.
