AUTHOR Don Balkwill is again appealing to Times readers for stories and pictures relating to the Shaugh Prior area. Earlier this year he asked readers for memories of Shaugh Prior Primary as he hoped to put together a book about the school. Don, a former pupil, who now lives in Abergavenny, Wales, said the response was superb with many people contributing stories and photographs. Unfortunately most of the information was of a general nature and did not relate to the school. Don said: ?However, as people had so generously given their time and effort in providing me with information and pictures on the parish of Shaugh, I created a website featuring a lot of the material supplied, http://www.shaugh.net">www.shaugh.net ?This proved to be of interest to a lot of people, many of whom contacted me to say how much they were enjoying the site. The contributions included those from as far away as USA, Canada and Australia. ?Of particular interest was the information supplied by two sisters who live in Canada and whose father, now dead, had lived in the cottage attached to the clay works at Shaugh Bridge when he was a boy. They were able to provide drawings and descriptions that their father had put together when he was alive. They also were able to supply photographs of the family and the clay works before it was closed and pulled down. ?Eventually it reached the stage where I felt there was sufficient data to produce a book called ?It?s a Shaugh thing.? - which will be published by Halsgrove Publishing in Somerset. The timetable for publishing is that all the material and pictures need to be submitted before April for publication in October. Although I have concentrated on Shaugh I am also interested in providing information on Wotter and Lee Moor. Don can be contacted on 01873 859017 or at [email protected]">[email protected]
