IN the Times last week were two letters, 'Silence marred by traffic', which referred to a lack of respect for Remembrance Day. It is not only Tavistock Town Council which was showing a lack of respect on that day, I can relate a lack of respect by Mary Tavy Parish Council which could not be bothered to ensure the gravel around the war memorial was clear of weeds.

The response I received to my letter about this stated 'for your information the area surrounding the memorial was treated with weed killer last month', but the council had not taken the trouble to ensure the job was done properly and the weeds remained very much alive.

It would be interesting to hear from other areas about their experiences on Remembrance Day, both the good and the disrespectful.
