WHEN the Milton Abbot Primary School Council decided to do something about speeding traffic outside their school, they discovered the power of democracy, in the form of Howard Asbridge, chair of Milton Abbot Grouped Parish Council.
The children invited Mr Asbridge for a ‘working lunch’ and he gave them great advice about their many ideas for slowing cars down, promising to take their concerns back to the next parish council meeting. His visit concluded with a tour of the school’s wonderful listed building.
Headteacher Chris Luxford, said: ‘I was very proud of the children and grateful for Mr Asbridge’s time. We want the children to be community minded and know they have a voice. They certainly felt like they were taken seriously.’
