MEMBERS of North Devon Wheelers Cycle Club had mixed fortunes in races over the last few weeks.
After good rides in the previous weekend?s 100-mile time trial, both Ray Retter and Steve Sage were hoping for similar results in last Sunday?s Plymouth Corinthians 50-mile event.
But things did not turn out as planned for Steve, who had not fully recovered from his previous weekend?s exertions. He was forced to abandon the race at half distance.
Ray faired better and completed the event in a time of 2:00:09 which again won him the veterans? prize.
The following Thursday Steve proved his poor ride was just a blip as he returned to form to take second place in St Budeaux C C 10-mile time trial. His time of 21:49 was just seven seconds behind the winner Ian Deakin (Mid
Devon CC).
The challenging conditions made the going tough so Steve was happy to get within five seconds of his personal best for a 10-mile time trial.
This weekend North Devon Wheelers hold an open 25-mile time trial at Chulmleigh and next Thursday evening it is their 10-mile club championship where everyone will be out to stop Mark Lees continuing his domination of club events.
