TAVISTOCK Library staff are offering more space for residents who want some light reading — and other activities — after the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 lockdowns.
Senior library supervisor Jan Horrell said funding support from Devon County councillor Debo Sellis over the last two years has helped to provide more space at the library for activities to start again following the covid lockdowns.
She said the library now has three accessible and comfortable rooms for groups and individuals to meet up with others who share their interests or need similar support and is even set up as an art exhibition space.
As well as book groups, the library has got room for a rhymes session for under-fives, a tea and games session with the memory cafe, an adult crafts morning and a music evening with young people performing.
She said: ‘We know many people who want to reconnect with old friends and new in person after spending so much time at home or online.’
She added: ‘The library is a place which contributes to everyone living more sustainably. Tavi Fridge, hosted in the library and supported by volunteers, has had huge success distributing food from retail outlets which would have gone to landfill.
‘The library is set to look a lot greener soon as planters are being filled with trees and plants to attract wildlife.’
