A YOUNG girl and her mum will be chopping off their locks this weekend as part of a fundraising party in Callington.
A prince and princess party has been arranged in Callington Town Hall on Saturday where visitors can enjoy a bouncy castle, games and face painting as well as watching Sam Stephens and her daughter Angel cut off several inches of their hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust, along with funds from the party, which makes wigs out of donated hair for children who have suffered hair loss as part of cancer treatment.
The idea to cut their hair came from Sam’s eight-year-old daughter Angel, a Stoke Climsland Primary School pupil, who has hair down to her waist.
Sam, who lives in Callington, said: ‘She asked if she could have a hair cut and I said yes, but then she said she wanted a big haircut and to donate it to the Little Princess Trust. I think she saw something about it on TV and another lady in Callington has just had it done. She’s quite excited about it.’
Sam is also having her hair cut off, but because she has it coloured she is unable to donate it, but wanted to undergo the cut in solidarity with Angel.
Sam, along with Angel and her three sons Joshua, Max and Braxton, organised the party to help raise money to send to the charity as well.
‘It’s not the first time they have wanted to do something to help their community. They are planning to make sandwich bag lunches for homeless people and give them out in Plymouth over the summer,’ said Sam.
Anyone is welcome to the party, which runs from 10am to 1pm.
