Okehampton Primary School has recently played host as pilot to the launch of a new listening campaign.
At a coffee morning on Tuesday, members of the local community including police officers, councillors and parents sat with the young students and heard their ideas for what they would like to see changed in their school and local community.
The listening campaign’s central aim is to bring the community together and is the start of a three to four week period of getting children to voice their ideas about how they think things could be improved in their town, which The Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust now hope to spread further. From then, the Trust aims to work with its partners to implement change.
Melissa Trudgill, community engagement and communications manager for the Trust said: ’It’s really exciting that the Trust is working across our schools to listen to the children and build partnerships with our communities to make positive changes.’
Year Six teacher Emily Cannon also complimented her students on their hard work in making the morning a success.
