ALL Saints Church has appointed a new musical director.
Tim Matthews has taken the position, having previously been assistant organist at Crediton Parish Church. He replaces Ian Cann, who was organist and choirmaster at the church for 60 years before his final service at the harvest festival celebrations in September.
Since Tim's arrival, a morning choir group has been formed to supplement the evening robed choir.
He said: 'I am delighted by the progress we have made so far. There is great potential here and I feel we can really go places. Anyone who wants to come and join us is most welcome.'
Rector of Okehampton, Rev Stephen Cook said: 'We are delighted to have Tim working with us. He brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm as well as a lot of musical experience. He is willing to have a go at anything, which is important as church music now involves such a wide range of styles.
'He is hoping to build up a choir of all ages, which can support the different kinds of services we have here. The traditional evening services will remain a core part of what we do, but there is so much else which can be done as well.'
All Saints Choir practice on Thursday evenings from 7.15pm and all are welcome. Tim is also available for private keyboard and singing lessons. For more information call Tim on 07530 428526.
