THROWLEIGH could get a range of post office services after the Post Office announced proposals for a new hosted outreach service for the village.

The hosted outreach service, whereby a nearby subpostmaster provides a service at set times each week, would be operated by the postmaster from South Zeal Post Office, every Tuesday and Friday between 1.30pm to 3pm at St Mary's Church.

The proposed new service is 400 metres from the former post office, which closed temporarily in March 2013 following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for post office use.

The same range of services will continue to be available, with the exclusion of Euro on Demand Bureau de Change facilities.

Colin Pound, field change advisor, said: 'We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Throwleigh and we are confident this new service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.'

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six week public consultation.

During the public consultation the Post Office will welcome feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.

The consultation will close on January 9.
