HOPES of celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee in Bridestowe are a 'dead duck'.
Parish council chairman John Leonard last week told councillors there appeared to be 'absolutely no interest' in celebrating the event in the village.
He said: 'It seems a great shame because we had a good village party in 1977 for the silver jubilee but golden jubilee celebrations are, I'm afraid, a dead duck.'
But Mr Leonard said neighbouring Sourton Parish Council aimed to put on a firework display to celebrate the event and Bridestowe could contribute to that.
Councillors agreed to contribute £100 towards the Sourton display provided details of it were publicised in Bridestowe.
Ironically, during the English Civil War, Sourton was for Cromwell and the Parliamentarians. Bridestowe remained loyal to the Royalist cause . . .
l Bridestowe Parish Council has ordered 100 jubilee mugs to be presented to children who will be aged under 17 on June 3.
The mugs will be handed out at about 3pm at the conclusion of the beating of the bounds ceremony on June 3.
Parents of children who cannot attend are asked to contact any parish councillor to obtain a mug for their child.
