PUNTERS at The Green Dragon pub in Northlew will take on a marathon hike for the second year running to raise money for charity.
On Saturday, August 12 the group will start their 27-mile hike in Northlew square and end 27-miles, 4 pubs and about 11 hours later.
The route takes the group from Halwill Junction to Cookworthy wood to Black Torrington, Highampton, Sheepwash, Hatherleigh and then back to Northlew.
This year the team is supporting The Northlew Air Ambulance Landing Lights fund and Something to Look Forward — a charity that supports people and their families who have been affected by cancer and allows them to access gifts which give them something to look forward to.
Tim William, who completed the challenge last year, said: ‘Last year we achieved the impossible and managed a marathon hike for charity. Why impossible? Because most of us were regulars of The Green Dragon pub and looked more likely to take on Okehampton Rugby team’s front row rather than amble 27-miles up and down the hills surrounding Northlew.
‘But we did it! 11 completed the task in full and about 20 others joined us for at least part of the way. We raised £5,000 for charity and this year we are taking on the challenge again and hope to raise funds for two great causes, Northlew Air Ambulance Landing Lights fund and the Something to Look Forward To charity.’
