Okehampton Primary School welcomed trustees from Okehampton United Charities (OUC) to the school before Christmas to view the new outside canopy for the nursery class and the new books for Key Stage 1 and 2 paid for by the latest grant from the OUC.
The money has come from the annual allocation given by OUC to support education in the town, which is split between Okehampton College, Okehampton Primary School and St James C of E Primary School. The OUC gave £10,630 towards the canopy and £4,000 for the new books.
The canopy has already made a big difference to the nursery, allowing children to use their outside space all year round. This gives them the freedom to let off steam outdoors, which is particularly important in the current climate. The canopy also helps nursery staff as the equipment can be left out between sessions, which saves a lot of time. The trustees really appreciated seeing the difference the award has made and school associate principal Martin Evely said the annual grant from the OUC was ‘much appreciated’ by everyone at Okehampton Primary School.
