OKEHAMPTON Excelsior Silver Band has helped put the town on the map by sweeping the board at the annual brass band festival in Bugle.

The band competed in three categories against 18 bands coming from as far away as Holland.

The first prize in the bag was the deportment. The band were judged on uniform, march style, straight lines side to side and front to back, and whether they were all in step. 

They then went to win first prize in the 4th section, playing the test piece Circus Suite. They completed the hat trick with the best soloist in the section being awarded to tenor horn player Lauren Oliver.
