TAVISTOCK College took 35 members of the cross country team to the Plymouth and West Devon championships held at Staddiscombe on November 17.

This is a very competitive event of the highest standard, with many schools from within the local area attending. The top 16 runners from each race automatically qualify to represent Plymouth and West Devon in the Devon Championships.

The challenge became even harder due to the recent weather conditions. The ground was very heavy and the runners had to be on top form just to complete the course. Every Tavistock runner performed fantastically well and gave 100%.

As a result, eight students qualified to represent Plymouth and West Devon at the Devon Cross Country Championships.

There were some outstanding individual performances led by Claire Fraser who won the year 10 and 11 girls' race.

This achievement was even more remarkable as Claire is only in year 10 so most of the girls in the race were a year older.

This was superbly followed by Becky Windemer who produced a classy run to finish second in the senior girls' race.

In the same race Laura Aspen continued her impressive form at this event by finishing seventh.

Two year 7 boys achieved top ten finishes with Adam Thyer and Reece Watters finishing eighth and ninth respectively.

Andy Hunter also produced a powerful display of running to finish tenth in the year 10 and 11 boys' race.
