Overnight road closures are needed to carry out essential resurfacing work on the A382 Ford Street, Moretonhampstead, later this month.
Circumstance and weather permitting the work will take place over five nights from Monday, May 20 to Friday, May 25.
To minimise disruption and enable the work to be carried out safely the road will be closed to vehicles overnight from 7pm each day, reopening no later than 7am the following morning. The exception is Thursday, May 23 when the European elections are taking place, so the road will remain open until after the polling station at Moretonhampstead Parish Hall on Fore Street has closed at 10pm to ensure voting can take place as normal.
During the closure the old road surface will be removed and new material laid to restore the road’s profile and skidding resistance as well as protect the underlying road foundation from further damage.
No vehicles will be able to park on the road during the work. Access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained. For all other vehicles a recommended diversion route in both directions using roads of equal category will be signed, although motorists with good local knowledge may use minor roads to work their way around the closure and short cut the diversions.
The official signed diversion route will be in place via the A382, A30, A38, A382 and vice versa or via Court Street, Bughead Cross, Thorns Cross, Week Cross, Beetor Cross, Watching Place Cross, Lettaford Cross, Challacombe Cross, Clapper Bridge, Higher Cherrybrook Bridge, Two Bridges, Rendlestone Cross, Merrivale Bridge, Higher Longford, Morshop, Mount Tavy Road, A386, A30, A382 and vice versa.
Residents living within the closure may be able to have vehicular access to their properties in exceptional circumstances by liaising with the site foreman, although it is not guaranteed. Pedestrian access will be available throughout the work.
Any change to the start date or duration of works will be indicated on the advisory signs located on site.
The scheme will be carried out by contractor Skanska. For more information visit www.devon.gov.uk/roadsandtransport/traffic-information/roadworks/a382-fore-street-moretonhampstead
