WORK to start construction on the controversial development for 110 new homes on Butcher Park Hill is ‘imminent’, according to developers.
A spokesperson on behalf of housebuilder David Wilson Homes said that work was ‘just about to start’. They said an exact date wasn’t confirmed but it was ‘imminent’.
David Wilson Homes said that the construction and sales of the new homes on the site, which was approved via appeal in 2016, would support a ‘large number of jobs’, including those for local people and sub contractors.
The new development, which will feature a range of three, four and five bedroom homes, will be called Embden Grange.
Sales director Sara Parker said: ‘This is great for people wishing to settle in this sought-after area. We think very carefully before deciding where to build new properties — and we know demand here is very high. We’re thrilled to be playing our part in bringing new homes to people in the area.
‘The layout of this development has been created with a whole host of lifestyles in mind — from sole occupants and couples to growing families. This is very important to us. We know there is a need for new and accessible housing in this region and our home designers have done us proud here.
The development has been the subject of debate for a number of years. Originally the site had approval for 52 holiday lodges but when that didn’t come to fruition, an application was put in for 110 homes on the site north east of Redmoor Close.
West Devon Borough Council planners refused the application in October 2015 but the developers lodged an appeal with the secretary of state to try to get the decision overturned. An inquiry was held and in August 2016 the appeal was approved.
