A PLANNING application to revamp a section of Tavistock’s high street has been given conditional approval by West Devon Borough Council.
The plans by Taunton Land Ltd for premises in Brook Street have been revised after local objections and take into account comments received from heritage specialists.
An application was submitted last June to the borough council to demolish the existing retail premises at 51 and 52 Brook Street and replace them with new-build retail premises and to enlarge 53 to 55 Brook Street to include an extension to the rear elevation on Market Road and change of use of residential maisonettes to retail use.
The site consists of both the commercial frontages that face onto Brook Street and the yards/service areas that are accessed from Market Road. The property at 55 Brook Street abuts the block of buildings that make up 9 to 18 Duke Street, which are Grade II Listed buildings.
