Racing gets under way at noon with Stone Valley and Bally Blue likely to provide the stiffest opposition to Lucy Gardner's choice of Uncle Dan and Winter Scene in the Members'. The latter has won this race for the last two years and is ideally suited to the track.
A terrific race is in prospect for the Ladies' Open, where the 23 entries include the exciting Welsh mare Lady Myfanwy, a winner of nine races last season, including two hunter chases. Dr Cerullo and Croix de Guerre can renew rivalry after their close encounter at Wadebridge before Christmas.
The Hobbs' girls also have Saint Romble to call on here and it will be good to see Mandy Hand in action again with Dante's Back; others to consider include Candarli, King Georges, Twilight Dancer and Wages.
There are 26 entries for the Men's Open. Dancer Life went very close to beating Little Ed in the Black Forest Club Open last month and has a bright chance of going one better here. The improving Sykee Savage has already scored twice this season for trainer Julie Houldey and jockey David Mansell, and should be in the shake up. Richard Woollacott can choose between Come What Augustus and The Quarry Man, and it will be interesting to see whether Contraband and All in the Stars can regain their National Hunt form.
The Restricted is a Novice Riders' contest and has a competitive look with 24 nominations. Welsh pointers rarely leave Black Forest empty handed, and Up The Boreen, who won his maiden at Bonvilston last June, could keep up the trend. Jafaro des Bois ran well to be third at the first meeting here and should go well again. Craigmor and The Busy Farmer will have benefited from their previous runs before Christmas and look best of the rest.
The 69 entries for the Open Maiden means a three way split. Plenty of the maidens have been knocking at the door. These include Matako, Ridiculousdecision and Nomad in the first division, and Inching West, Miss Razmatazz and Mr Dass in the second section. Perfect Gem could return after a year off in the final division but would have to be at her best to beat Slipawayon. The Cumings' six-year-old was a desperately unlucky runner up at the South Tetcott last year and looks a ready made winner.
• The track is located just six miles off the end of the M5, near the B3381, between the A380 and Starcross. Entrance costs £20 per car, with a concession of £10 for a car and single driver.
