THE annual village pond clearing took place in Throwleigh last Thursday morning.
Planned to coincide with school holidays there was tremendous support from more than 30 adults and children, many keen to don their wellies and get in the water.
Conditions were ideal as the water level was low following the dry summer and there was very little pond life to disturb. The surrounding banks and hedges were trimmed back, along with the water plants and the mud and debris removed so all is ready for the winter rains and the return of the amphibious creatures.
With such a good and willing group of people, the work didn't take long so there was plenty of time to enjoy drinks, biscuits and sausage rolls over a chat with neighbours.
Thanks were extended to everyone who came along to watch or take part in this community event, especially to Katharine and Dawn for the refreshments. Also to Roger the parish voluntary Dartmor National Park warden for all the planning and preparation beforehand.
