A MUSICAL extravaganza hits West Devon again on November 17, when Scottish singer Lulu and pop charters Atomic Kitten perform in Okehampton.

They have teamed up on a forthcoming single. These two top acts take to the stage at Simmons Park inside a massive big top.

This is the third event to be organised by Okehampton FirstAid — the charity set up to help regenerate the area after the foot and mouth crisis.

It follows the August Bank Holiday Music Day in Simmons Park where performances included the English Symphony Orchestra, the London Community Gospel Choir and the Wurzels.

Agents of Atomic Kitten and Lulu say they are very pleased to be taking part in the concert and supporting a rural community in the wake of the agricultural crisis.

Spokesman for Atomic Kitten Gordon Duncan said: 'The girls hope they can help and get people into the area again as well as make it a great party for everyone.'

The trio, who debuted in 1999 with their hit single 'Right Now' enjoyed incredible success earlier this year when 'Whole Again' rocketed straight to the number one spot — staying there for an amazing four weeks, beating off competition from the likes of megastars U2.

The follow-up single, a cover version of the Bangles hit 'Eternal Flame' was another smash for the Kittens, who will be releasing a new single two days after the Simmons Park event.

Lulu is best known for the single 'Shout' which she recorded at the tender age of 14 sparking the start of a hugely successful career which has spanned over 35 years.

In the 1960s Lulu notched up an impressive run of seven top 40 hits in just two years including the world-wide million seller 'To Sir with Love' and ending with the Eurovision Song Contest winner 'Boom Bang-a-Bang'.

Constantly re-inventing herself, Lulu's music has always moved with the times as her duet 'Relight My Fire' with top boy band of the early 1990s Take That showed.

Tickets for the concert, priced at £18 (or £15 if you buy 20 or more) are available from the Tuit Centre in Lewdown and various outlets in Okehampton including Donalds Menswear, The Okehampton Times and The Fountain Hotel or the National Box Office on 08705 321321.

Coaches are being laid on from Tavistock, Launceston, Hatherleigh, Torrington, Barnstaple, Bude, Bideford, Plymouth, Exeter, Tiverton, Newton Abbott and Torquay. Contact the box office for details.

Organisers are encouraging residents of West Devon to buy their tickets for the event as soon as possible as box office sales are going well.

FirstAid co-ordinator Susanne Watt said prices had been kept 'to the knuckle' so as many local people as possible could go to the event.

'We took on board what people said about ticket prices for the music day we held in August,' she said.

' The cost is as low as we can go bearing in mind this is a high calibre event and the acts are not cheap,' she said.

FirstAid is taking full advantage of the big top which will be used during the day on November 17, for a community consultation event by the Okehampton Market and Coastal Towns Initiative.
