I WISH to add my praise and support to the Tavistock Youth Café project so near to its launching. As mayor of Tavistock, it has been my chosen charity for the year. There is a desperate need for sympathetic venues for our young people;. Tavistock and District Youth Council is comprised of many and varied individuals who achieve so much. Councillor Anne Johnson has worked so hard for the inspirational youth café project. She is also deputy chairman of our council?s finance and general purposes committee, a busy person indeed, who has worked tirelessly with the youth café steering group and the young people themselves. The Blowzone concert in the town hall on March 18 are to give their profits to the Youth Café project. That concert gave us a most exciting evening with a rich mix of music, with players of all ages, all wind players. I?ve never before heard Bernstein and Boismortier, Donizetti and Glen Miller in one programme. That concert was wonderful and Steve Smith and Michael Wood deserve high praise. Tavistock is a town of unsung heroes. That is the theme of the ceremony of Honoured Burgesses of Tavistock to be held o April 2 at 11.30am in our town hall. Four people will be presented with the honoured burgesses of Tavistock certificates in a public ceremony. They have served the town and community throughout their lives and have worked long and hard for others. Tavistock, our beautiful town, has so many special and wonderful people whom it is an honour to know. Jenny Metcalf Tavistock Town Mayor
