A recently married couple were honoured to have a Yelverton priest don his collar once more to carry out the ceremony after his retirement.

Michael and Kayleigh Lane were married at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Yelverton by retired priest the Rev Michael Cole.

Kayleigh, formerly Wonnacott, whose parents Shane and Vanessa Wonnacott live in Tavistock, met Michael Lane, son of Anthony and Teresa Lane, of Plymouth, at school. Kayleigh knew the Rev Michael Cole from the church in Yelverton where she worshipped. The couple had asked him prior to his retirement if he would perform the ceremony for them, and he kept his promise, returning one last time to marry them.

The flowers for the wedding were made by family friend Jenny McDowell and comprised a bouquet of wild flowers picked from her garden. The bridesmaids were good friend Pippa Hunt and cousins Emily and Victoria Wilkins, and the best man was Thomas Edwards.

The reception was held in Plymouth and the couple are to honeymoon in Las Vegas, San Francisco and Mexico later in the year.
