THE Duke and Duchess of Cornwall will visit a number of locations in the area tomorrow (Thursday) as part of Devon and Cornwall Week.
During their tour of the region, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit sites in Lifton, Okehampton and Cheriton Bishop.
Their Royal Highnesses will visit Lifton to celebrate the centenary of the Ambrosia Creamery at an open day festival held for staff, their families, local dairy farmers and Lifton residents.
They will have the chance to meet guests being treated to a traditional cream tea whilst learning more about the 100-year history of the site. They will also unveil a commemorative mosaic portrait of creamery founder Alfred Morris and cut a specially-commisioned Ambrosia cake in honour of the centenary.
The Duke of Cornwall will then visit Okehampton Camp, located on the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Dartmoor Training area, to hear about the ways in which The Duchy of Cornwall has been working with the MOD, the local community and other stakeholders on a wide variety of Dartmoor conservation projects.
His Royal Highness will hear from the Dartmoor Steering Group, who bring together the MOD plus key statuary and land owning bodies that have an interest in managing of the Dartmoor Training Area. He will also meet with soldiers performing a military exercise, local farmers and land cleaners who still use horses to clear livestock ahead of any military exercises.
Also during the tour, the Duke and Duchess will visit The Devon Federation of Young Farmers Club’s new building in Cheriton Bishop which was opened earlier this year after the federation successfully raised more than £400,000 for the project.
The Duke will meet members from across the 38 Devon clubs and see a range of activities including sheep shearing, skills training and sporting activities. They will also be unveiling a plaque to commemorate his visit and the formal opening of the club’s new rural hub called The Amory Building.
Their Royal Highnesses will visit the three locations as part of their three-day visit to Devon and Cornwall which comes to an end on Friday (July 21).
